Alan Miller, President
Mr. Miller has been with Gongwer News Service for more than three decades, joining the company as a reporter after his graduation from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Al, who covered the Michigan Legislature for Gongwer from 1972-1992, follows a variety of issues and is also responsible for the company’s main business operations.
Scott Miller, Vice President
Mr. Miller joined Gongwer News Service in 1995 after graduating from Miami University. Beyond reporting duties, Scott is responsible for the Gongwer’s Ohio Internet operations, customer service and subscription matters. A former president of the Ohio Legislative Correspondents Association, Scott regularly covers the Ohio Senate and issues regarding public utilities, energy and public retirement systems.
Kent Cahlander, Editor
A graduate of Ohio State University, Kent became a Gongwer staff writer in 1998. Promoted to the editor position in 2003, he is responsible for assignments, coverage and the content of the Gongwer Ohio Report. He covers a variety of subjects and venues, including the House, taxation, budget and other finance issues.
John Chalfant, Staff Writer
Mr. Chalfant has been a full-time staff writer with Gongwer since 2002. A graduate of Ohio University’s School of Journalism, he covers Ohio’s court system and the administration, bills pertaining to insurance, civil and criminal law, and politics, among other topics. John is a former broadcast newsman who began covering the Statehouse in 1977 for The Associated Press.
Marcus Roth, Staff Writer
Mr. Roth has been a staff writer with Gongwer since 2005. A graduate of the University of Virginia, he has been responsible for coverage of the biennial budget and also covers environmental, agriculture and health issues. Before joining Gongwer, Marcus wrote for the (Lexington, Va.) News-Gazette and published freelance pieces in The Washington Post.
